Organic Semiconductor Industry Awards seek industry pioneers

cintelliq ltd, provider of information services and technology consulting to the organic semiconductor industry, has opened nominations for its third annual Organic Semiconductor Industry Awards (OSIA).

Organic Semiconductor Industry Awards 2008 logoThe aim of the awards is to bring together the whole of the organic semiconductor and organic electronics industries (including flexible, plastic and printed electronics) in a celebration of the organisations and people who are leading the development of these emerging technologies.

OSIA 2008 is sponsored by cintelliq and is run in association with OSA Direct, the world's leading newsletter on the organic semiconductor industry.

Nominations are invited in the following categories:
  • Research & Development Award
Entries in this category will be required to demonstrate an original concept, practical development and implementation of organic electronics or organic semiconductor technologies. Judges will look for the originality of the technology, how it addresses a specific market requirement and whether it successfully addresses a design or manufacturing problem.
OSIA 2007 winner: Cambridge Display Technology

  • Start-up of the Year
Companies which have set up operations in the last five years, whether venture funded or privately financed, will be considered for the start-up of the year award. Entries can come from any part of the value chain from material research and product development, through to design, engineering and manufacturing.
    OSIA 2007 winner: Polymer Vision

  • Product of the Year ** New this year **
Companies are invited to enter what they consider their most innovative product based on organic semiconductor technology launched in the past 12 months. Judges will be looking for products which exhibit innovative design and high performance and which meet a clear customer need.

  • Best Conference Peer-Review Paper
Each peer review paper accepted for the Organic Semiconductor Conference 2008 (OSC-08) will be judged for its originality, technical strength and ability to move the industry forward.
OSIA 2007 winner: Min-Joo Kim, Dae-Won Kim, Young Hoon Noh, Han Saem Kang, Hochul Kang, Chang-Dong Kim, and InByeong Kang from LG Philips LCD
An independent panel of industry experts will judge entrants for the Research & Development, Start-up of the Year and Product of the Year awards. The peer-review committee for OSC-08 will select the winner of the Best Conference Peer-Review Paper award.

Nominations for the awards are free and are open until 31 July 2008. Applicants from previous years are welcome to reapply. Winners will be announced on 30 September 2008 at the OSC-08 Gala Dinner in Frankfurt, Germany. Entry forms can be downloaded from the OSIA web site.

Craig Cruickshank, cintelliq CEO, said, "In the three years since the OSIA awards were established there have been many important technical and commercial developments across the industry, with more early products now entering commercialisation. For this reason we have introduced a new award category—Product of the Year—to recognise the products which are now available in the marketplace."

He continued, "We are expecting the range of nominations for OSIA 2008 to reflect the exciting developments in the industry and anticipate that our judges will once again be impressed by the high standard of nominations."
