Seminar 2b: Technical issues in developing flexography for printed electronics

Seminar leader: Dr Eifion Jewell, Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating / UK Display and Lighting Network
11.00-12:30 Monday 29 September 2008

The workshop will discuss the state of the art flexography as a means of manufacturing printed electronics.

Flexography offers an opportunity to mass produce organic electronics at high speed and low cost. There are however significant technical issues which must be addressed before flexography can move from the packaging graphics market to electronic production.

The workshop will address the key issues which have an impact on the production process such as machine design, plate technology, anilox characteristics, machine settings, register, metrology and operational requirements.

Samples of high definition features produced by flexography will be made available for delegates. These will be drawn from WCPC's electronics by flexography project portfolio which includes R2R fabrication of OLED lighting, drying at production speeds and high accuracy R2R register for packaging and OTFT production. These projects utilise novel materials, plate technology and R2R processing techniques as well as fundamental research on ink transfer, curing and materials technology.
