15:30-17:00 Monday 29 September 2008

This seminar will outline a number of key issues facing technologists and strategic decisions makers interested in getting started in printed active electronics. It is intended to benefit newcomers to the field by helping them understand some of the opportunities and challenges and enable them to make a more informed decision about how to adopt this technology.

The seminar will include a discussion of motivations, matching techniques, expectations and applications through to a few basic practical issues of making electronics with printing. We will wrap up with a discussion of entry level approaches with some example case studies.

Topics to be covered include:
  • Motivations
  • Strengths and weaknesses
  • Consideration of roll to roll and sheet based models
  • Solution Based Processing
  • Choice of Technique
  • Comparisons with conventional thin film technology
  • Special Challenges For Printed Electronics
    • Materials: Substrates and Inks
    • Process and Yield
  • Practical Implementation and Hybrid Processes
  • Early Adopter Case Studies: TFT, OLED
